I am a home / small business users and my VitalPBX is running behind my own firewall so I am using NAT port forwarding for sip and RTP. Everything is woking in and out as well as Time Groups and Time Conditions (so SPAMers don’t wake me up at 3am) and I really love it.
I currently have my public IP (WAN) address entered in
Settings → Technology Settings → PJSIP
… External Media Address and External Signaling Address
My ISP is Frontier Fiber which uses dynamic IP allocation. They will provisoin a static IP for $20 per month. Yep, I know, that’s ludicrous.
Is there a way I can make either of the following work?
- run a script to determine my Public IP address if it changes update a system variable and enter that variable in the External Media/Signaling Address fields ($WAN_IP)?
- can I put a hostname in the External Media/Signaling Address fields rather than a dotted quad that I know will resolve to my WAN IP?
My WAN IP doesn’t change very often but I just know I’m going to forget to update VItalPBX when it does and I would like to automate the update of this setting.
Is there another solution I haven’t considered?
