Extension Failover to FollowMe

Hello,

The PBX we are coming from (a very popular asterisk based PBX…) has under the extension advanced tab the following options as “extension failover”:

The default for all is voicemail, but we set the destination if unreachable to go to its FollowMe. (even if FollowMe is normally disabled, force FM will “temporarily” enable FollowMe)

This is super helpful when an end-user’s device is offline.

Please implement such a functionality.

In case it isn’t clear what these options are:

1 No Answer

Meaning: Call is routed to when the call is not answered on an otherwise idle phone. If the phone is in use and the call is simply ignored, then the busy destination will be used.
Destination: Send to voicemail unavailable greeting.

2 Busy

Meaning: Call is routed to when the phone is busy or the call is rejected by the user. This destination is also used on an unanswered call if the phone is in use and the user chooses not to pickup the second call.
Destination: Send to voicemail busy greeting.

3 Not Reachable

Meaning: Call is routed to when the phone is offline, such as a softphone currently off or a phone unplugged.
Destination: Force follow Me

Also, in case you didn’t see, they also allow you to set a Caller ID prefix, which is very helpful if we send the call to another extension, so they understand that this is a forwarded call.

Thank you

You have call diversion settings in the Extension Status module. It’s basically the same.

  • Call forward on No Answer
  • Call forward on Busy
  • Call forward when unavailable

Is unavailable used to indicate DND as well as unregistered?

We tested this… It works… almost.

When the extension goes offline, it indeed calls the FollowMe list even if FollowMe is disabled - which is great!

The problem is, that if they answer the FollowMe call but they don’t press 1 to accept the call, or, if the call reaches the cellphone’s voicemail, it plays to the caller the follow me error message that “we were unable to…”

I suspect that this is happening because a CFWD already answers the call?

I can share a call trace if needed, but this should be easy to reproduce.

  1. Create extension 101.
  2. Add a cellphone number to the FollowMe list
  3. Enable prompt callee
  4. Make sure FollowMe is disabled.
  5. Under Extension Status set CFU to FollowMe to 101 and enable it.
  6. Create a queue and add 101
  7. Make sure 101 is offline.
  8. Make a call that gets routed to the queue
  9. Answer the call on your cellphone, but DON’T press 1. (Press 2 or hangup)
