The VitalPBX Dashboard hasn’t seen an update in eons. It’s pretty much the same as it was a decade ago. Some relatively minor updates I’d like to see to start refreshing it a bit:
- Change “PJSIP CONTACTS” nomenclature, or get rid of it entirely, referring to it as simply “CONTACTS” or “ENDPOINTS”, “DEVICES”, whatever. No one knows (beyond us of course) or even cares what PJSIP means.
- Ditch “SIP DEVICES” entirely. A long time ago in a galaxy very near that was a thing with Asterisk - SIP to PJSIP. Now, very few people know or care. It can go away to never be referred to again, and nobody will miss it.
- Ditch “IAX2 DEVICES”. See #2 above.
- Make the right side widgets selectable, taking the user to the applicable location. In fact, even make the PJSIP CONTACTS selectable, taking the user to Reports → PBX Reports → PJSIP Endpoints.
- Make the appearance of the various Dashboard Widgets selectable when building User Profiles.
This is just a start, but please just start something. The Dashboard is old, tired, and ready for a refresh. The ‘look’ is fine. It just needs these minor esthetic and naming alterations. We intentionally avoid giving our end users access to their PBX backend primarily for this reason - having to spend gobs of time explaining what this stuff means and why they should ignore it.
In other words… Dumb it down please.
