Account Synchronization

Per the paid helpdesk, this is a feature request for evaluation/discussion. Below is my original request.

Hi all,

I’m introducing a large customer to their new phone server solution (Yours) today.

When I’m setting someone up in VitalPBX under Extensions >> Extension# >> Advanced >> User Portal, I give them a Portal Username and a Portal Password. That lets them get to their Extension settings.

When I set them up under VitXi, they also have a User and a Password, that does not necessarily synchronize with the password above.

If I set them up as a Switchboard user, there’s yet another Username/Password combo that doesn’t match the above two.

Is there a way to synchronize these passwords, so if the user changes their password in one place, it changes them in all the places?

-Or-

Alternatively/Even Better, is there a way to specify an external database, like LDAP (which would be Active Directory, for most people I suspect) and use their username and password from AD to control these things?

I ask because I’m setting their password right now to a generic password, and each person is going to have to change it in all those places. Inevitably this question is going to bubble to the surface.

Hey @anomaly0617, I moved your post to Wish List

If you take a look at this category, this (centralized login, SSO or LDAP) has been requested many, many times.

When I met the team at IT Expo, they expressed that they have future plans to address this.

I think it is time for the VitalPBX team to have a formal feature request something like canny.io that allows you to collect feedback where users can vote so you can understand what is a hot item and publish a roadmap
I think Github has something similar, could also be that Discourse has a solution for that.

I 100% agree with you about voting features up! I’ve got another one I’m about to add here, and it would be nice if there was a way to express to the team how important these feature enhancements are to customers.
